America's Pop Music Hall of Fame Finds Home

The temporary home of the national venue will be in a familiar location on West Pike Street.

Right now, the space on West Pike St. in is Toys My Way Cafe—an eatery in the heart of the borough.

But come July 4, it will be home to .

Borough Manager Terry Hazlett on Tuesday confirmed: Toys My Way Cafe will be moving out of the space come Nov. 1, and that an anonymous donor has paid for the national hall of fame to move in for two years.

"It took a long time to get a place," Hazlett said.

While the hall of fame won't be open to the public until next year, he said he has already received "numerous" phone calls from bus tour organizers looking to bring fans into town for the attraction.

Hazlett admitted the temporary space is small—just 3,000 square feet—but said the area would still be able to house one to two small displays featuring the inducted artists.

Since inductees will be given an award called The Perry (in honor of Canonsburg crooner Perry Como), Hazlett said he also envisions an over sized version of the statuette gracing the new hall home, too.

"It will sort of be like the Stanley Cup," Hazlett said, adding that the names of the inductees would be inscribed each year into the larger-than-life award.

He said that the temporary space gives the committee overseeing the development of America's Pop Hall of Fame two years to raise funds for a permanent home.

But in the meantime, the space on West Pike, he said, is invaluable for many reasons.

"It lends credibility to the fact we are getting this national venue right here in Canonsburg," Hazlett said.

Editor's Note: Stay tuned Sunday, when a list of nominees for the first class to be inducted into the hall will be announced.
