Middle School Anti-Bullying Project Named 'Video of the Day'

The video parody to the song 'Down' by Jay Sean was created last year.

Consider a rap parody video created by Canonsburg Middle School "the cream of the crop."

staff last school year participated in a teacher-created, anti-bullying video parody to the song “Down” by Jay Sean—a video used to inspire students to help prevent bullying.

A day after students returned back to school this year (), the video—titled "Stop Putting Me Down: CMS Anti-Bullying Sing-Off"—was named the "Video of the Day" by the St. Louis-based video-sharing site.

Lauren Paddick, an eighth-grade English teacher, and Marcie Killmeyer, a special education teacher, wrote the lyrics.

The parody was sung by Jill Dennick, an eighth-grade social studies teacher, and rapped by Lauren Paddick, Melissa Cashell, both eighth-grade social studies teachers, as well as Sheila Mitchell, a special education teacher.

The video was directed by Killmeyer and edited by Paddick.

“Thousands of videos are uploaded to our site everyday,” said Jeff Johnston, SchoolTube’s community director. “Our ‘Video of the Day’ selections are the cream of the crop from the most innovative students and teachers.“

Paddick’s production was distributed via Twitter by @SchoolTube, posted on facebook.com/SchoolTube and featured on SchoolTube.com with a network that reaches more than 300,000 people each day.

SchoolTube, Inc., is the nation’s largest k-12 video-sharing site and is endorsed by more than a dozen national education associations. Its mission is to empower students and teachers through the use of video in a fun and safe environment.
