Fundraiser Started for Gracie the Greyhound's Vet Bills

The Canonsburg greyhound's vet bill is expected to be more than $3,000.

Now that Gracie the greyhound has been reunited with her owners after more than a week after she got loose, a fundraiser has been set up to help with the Canonsburg pooch's veterinary bills.

The greyhound is owned by Sherri Sulkowski and her family.

The fundraiser has been set up through the website Fundrazr.com.

This is what was posted on the fundraising website:

"Gracie the Greyhound was out on a leashed walk while with her owner and was attacked by a dog that broke loose. She got out of her harness and ran. Missing for 12 days and ran 15-plus miles and was found on Monday, March 10. Her veterinarian bill will more than likely exceed $3,000—it is already past $1,300. She may need surgery for ligament or tendon repair to yet be determined. She needs to be stabilized yet. She is on the mend. I do not see why her owners should have to pay all of this money out of their pocket due to the lack of knowledge in which a dog which is aggressive broke loose and attacked her due to it not being restrained properly!"

The fund-raising campaign runs through May 1—and as of Tuesday afternoon, 12 people had already donated $460 toward the $3,000 goal.

"I did see Gracie and just knowing some of her trauma she went through, she was guided by her angels to be found!" wrote Theresa Cunningham Mitchell, who started the fund-raising campaign.

She will! She lost 18 pounds that was the big concern with the dehydration. I got to visit Gracie each day at the veterinarians with the Sulkowski's. She has no organ damage from the dehydration that was determined through her blood work. As a matter of fact she will be going home late Wednesday if all goes well. Thanks for asking.

This sounds like a case for People's Court... Seems winnable to me... Instead of e-begging...

We are not e begging at all. We are just simply trying to help them defray costs from the bill they will have to pay up front. They may never see a penny from the owner of the other dog. He does not even have a current license on him,not up to date on shots, nor is the dog neutered. So who is going to front the money for small peoples court? Somebody has to,not the owner of the greyhound! This is not e begging it simply is a choice or option for people if they would like to help. There are alot of people on that site doing the same thing for different causes, like medical expenses not through their own fault, such as parents of children that their hospital bill from cancer is out of hand. I put my reputation on the line and I am glad I did because this is a worth while cause. If you got hurt and your medical bills were through the roof, due to you not being able to work you can do this or E beg as you state. Please do not judge this situation.

You just don't even know how elated they are to have her back! O got the phone call as soon as she was found and they were not even at the veterinarians with Gracie yet,and we were all crying on the phone! An angel guided us to her to be found let me tell you. She was in a wooded area in a bed of leaves and I think nobody would have found her if it was not for Debi Page!

Thank God that Gracie is safe and getting the medical care she needs. The owner of the dog that attacked Gracie should foot at least 50% of the bill, if not all of it. Gracie would not be in this condition if the owner took better measures to make sure the dog was left in the house or fenced in a yard. I wonder if the owner of the lose dog even so much as apologized to Gracie's family.

This may sound like I am sitting on a gold pedastal but the fact is that I too am a dog owner and I take proper care to make sure my dog doesn't get out of my yard and if my dog was attacked, I would want the owner of the attack dog to pay for all care needed. Its called responsibility.

The owner does not even have current shots on this dog or dog license. He is not even neutered. They will be lucky if they get it or half of Gracie's bill. I have seen it, it is high and that was just Monday when she was admitted. Today is Wednesday and she is supposed to go home.

Let me add that this was the dog that attacked Gracie. She even still had her tags on when she was found believe it or not.

She will make a full recovery. They are supposed to have a magistrate hearing but we do not know when. So I decided to help out in the meantime. I know about where the bill is in amount and is high. If the dog owner cannot even have an up to date dog license or up to date on shots even and have the dog neutered how are they going to recoup veterinarian expenses from him? So this is started solely by me trying to help out a bit.

You are welcome and Thank~You! I just spoke to Gracie's mom,she is resting quietly at home as we speak. She is still pretty weak and tired, been a real ordeal for all of us here. I told Sherry a week ago we were all frantic as to where do we look next? It is a miracle how she was found. Now that she is home I feel I can rest! Every night I devoted at least 1 hour to search for her. The way Debi decided to give a chance to look near the greenhouse and the Verizon guy telling her he thought there was a possible dead dog in the back and her looking and Gracie raising her head is truly and simply a miracle. She was out of energy, who knows if she would have ever gotten back up. That possibly was her last destination in her mind. I just cannot believe they got their girl back. Sunday we were out for 7 hours looking and just missing her or driving by her each step of the way. It seemed like a nightmare with each sighting and they were accurate ones that we did not lock in on her. One angel guided the other angel to find her on Monday. She will have to back for a check up and some routine tests as a liver function test, until then all is fine in Gracie's World!

I will do exactly that Amanda! I feel like I am Gracie's P.R. person, actually I feel quite honored! I am so happy she is homeI just can't imagine her living in the elements of the past almost 2 weeks. We had snow, cold rainy nights and she lived through although used to snuggling on her tiger print bed in a warm home, she made it! Keep in mind Greyhounds are only 10% body fat! So they get cold fast! Then what she must have dined on to survive! Wow,the story her mind and eyes have thought and seen. Thanks for sharing my pictures and putting up the link for Gracie as well.

Terri
Where was Gracie found? If this is the Debi Page that I know...she is a true dog lover and a wonderful person. This is the most wonderful news I can imagine! I met Gracie and her owner a couple years ago while walking at Town Park...she's a beautiful creature and so lucky to have a loving devoted owner! So very happy for Sherri and Gracie !

Bobbi she was found in Washington,Pa off Beau street,Floral Hill Drive. Property next to a Greenhouse I believe Stimmel's. Next to it in the back in a wooded area,in a pile of leaves. Nobody would have ever found her,Debi said she was going to search else where then decided to ask the guy at the greenhouse I think. She knows him and then everything with the verizon guy and on and on there was our angel nesting in a pile of leaves. My quote is "It took an angel to find the angel"! Yes that is probably the Debi you know.
