Help Save Town Park Pool: Dinner and Dancing Event Planned
There will be dinner and dancing inside the pool later this month. Read on to see how you can attend.
Organizers are calling this a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity: Dinner and dancing inside Town Park Pool.
Yes, you read that right. Inside the pool.
Canonsburg borough Manager Terry Hazlett said on the community's website that diners on Sept. 29 will enjoy a prime rib dinner provided by Texas Roadhouse in the pool—all to raise money for a new liner for the community swimming venue.
Called “Dine in the Pool,” tickets are $40 each or two for $75, and will include valet parking, hors d’oeuvres, a complete prime dinner and dancing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. (dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.).
Seating is limited to 300.
In addition to Texas Roadhouse, major sponsors of the event include All Seasons Mat & Linen Service, Quality Quick, Ross Beverages and Bahr Hardware.
The event is the first of several fundraisers the park board plans to help raise $150,000 for the liner.
The borough is attempting to pay for the liner without increasing taxes. To that end, it is delaying the hiring of a new public works director for up to a year (current director Chester Osiecki is retiring). Pool passes will also be increased slightly next year.
The park board hopes a new liner will be installed this fall, so the pool can be opened on schedule in 2013.
Hazlett said that the pool is the generator for all park activities and income, including pavilion rentals, the concession stand and Camp Splash.
To purchase tickets for the event, checks, made out to Friends of the Park, may be sent to Friends of the Park, P.O. Box 4, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
The deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 19.
Editor's Note: Those who cannot attend are urged to make donations, according to the borough website. All donations are tax deductible.

Seems like an awfully high price for that liner!

Well, when you consider the size of the pool...

$12,000 for a pool liner that was just replace 3 years ago. That seems pricey to me.

I like it. Its more personal than just sending money in. You can actually see where your money is going

Exactly Jacqueline , Liner is not the answer. A concrete pools requires a coating that would withstand the rigors of a pool that size. A liner will never last . Maybe a coating with a Kevlar in the ingredients ? FFRGlobal.com ?
