Local Girls Raise $1,600 For 2000 Turkeys
Carly Rhome and her friends helped raise money to help feed families who cannot afford a holiday meal.
For Carly Rhome, one word described her experience raising money for 2000 Turkeys: Awesome.
Carly, daughter of Dale and Jody Rhome of Canonsburg, helped organize an effort with her Girl Scout troop and spent five Saturdays perched outside the Canonsburg Shop ‘n Save to raise money for the cause, which helps feed local families who cannot afford a Thanksgiving meal.
And the sixth-grader said all that effort paid off, literally.
She and her friends from Girl Scout Troop 53670 raised more than $1,600.
Joining Carly were her friends and fellow scouts Allie Mitchell, Emma Minnis, Natalie Compel and Zoe Hutzel along with their adviser, Donna Compel.
Carly said she plans to help with fundraising efforts for 2000 Turkeys next year, as she did last year, too (when she raised more than $500).
