In nearby Peters Township, a resident is challenging the nominating petition of a candidate running against state Rep. John Maher for the state auditor general post.

Online court records show that Alberta Mercer, who the Observer-Reporter identified as a member of the Republican Party State Committee, filed the paperwork in Commonwealth Court on Tuesday challenging the petition of Frank Pinto.

Pinto, the newspaper said, is a former professor from Harrisburg.

She is being represented by Otter Lawrence, an attorney from Doylestown.

A hearing on the matter has been set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Commonwealth Court.

No further details of the challenge were immediately available Friday morning. Laura Zajdel, of Peters Township Republicans, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
