These verses remind us that Jesus existed from eternity past, and did not begin in the manger in Bethlehem. The birth was the Incarnation of God, a presence in human form, fully man, yet fully God. The phrase "coming of the Christ child," is sometimes meant to convey the idea that He never existed before the Bethlehem scene. This verse clearly refutes this notion.
