John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace, peace, peace, ... so many search, but never find. The search on the horizontal level will never satisfy. Absence of conflict man-to-man is not peace. The Lord gives peace that "transcends all understanding." He came to "preach peace" to mankind, a peace that is vertical in nature. Unless we get the vertical component right, we will never be successful in getting the horizontal component right. The "peace on earth" that was spoken to the shepherds on the announcement of Jesus' birth is not the Hallmark version to make greeting cards, rather the peace that was proclaimed that night was the peace between God and man.
