Canonsburg, Cecil Water Mains Included in $9.3 Million Upgrade
Pennsylvania American Water on Tuesday announced the start of construction to replace more than 10 miles of aging water main in the Washington County area to improve service reliability and improve fire protection for residents.
The cost of the system improvements—which includes work in Canonsburg and Cecil Township—is approximately $9.3 million.
“These projects will replace mains that date back to the early 1900s,” said Dave Gumbert, Pennsylvania American Water’s manager of field operations. “The new pipe will provide improved reliability, as well as improved fire protection for our customers.”
In Canonsburg, the following streets will be involved in the construction:
- Fourth Street
- Franklin Avenue
- Greenside Avenue
- Harrison Street
- Lincoln Avenue
- Meadow Lane
- Moore Avenue
- Orchard Avenue
- Washington Street
In nearby McDonald, work will be completed in the area of Third Street, while East Edgewood Drive in Peters Township will also be part of the project.
The company expects to complete pipe installation, service connection tie-ins and final paving restoration by the end of 2013—weather permitting.
Customers should be aware: During construction, they might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
