Heritage Library Seeks Help To Replace Roof

When organic shingles were recalled, the library was left to find ways to replace it's roof.

Heritage Public Library in McDonald needs a new roof, and it's seeking help from patrons and community members to keep shelter over its collection.

The organic shingles used on the library's roof were found to be defective and were recalled in a class-action lawsuit. Board member Jen Swearman said that although the library received $2,500 in the settlement, that's not enough to replace the roof.

Swearman said the library has a grant from 84 Lumber, and has about $5,000 to put toward labor costs, the board is hoping to find a roofer who will donate a portion of services to help the library.

"We've had some calls and had some contractors come in, but we're looking to get their time mostly donated," she said. "We're happy to pay labor costs. I know it's a big thing to ask, but we could really use the help."

Swearman said the library would be willing to advertise for the company with its Sponsor of the Day program.

"The board has to meet next week and I think we have a few options on the table, but the roof fund is still open for those who want to donate."

Those interested in donating either money or services to the project can contact Swearman at 724-926-8400 or at heritagelibrary@comcast.net.
