Local Mom Running for Taste of Home's Mrs. Holiday

This soon-to-be empty nester needs your votes! If selected, she'll be an advocate, an ambassador and an inspiration—and receive $50,000.

Holiday enthusiast Brenda Schwartz, of McMurray, is currently in the running to be named Mrs. Holiday, Taste of Home’s official ambassador of the holidays.

Schwartz said her sister gave her a subscription to the magazine in 2002 and she's been a fan ever since.

"I am excited to be in the running for Mrs. Holiday," she said. "I am also a fan of bringing the holidays to life for my friends and family."

Schwartz submitted a video entry for her favorite holiday, Christmas, along with a recipe for her signature dish, Candy Cane Brownies.

"In my video, I talk about an annual gingerbread 'competition' I started with a few of my friends," she said. "It's a fun reason to get together and celebrate the holiday season. The winner gets a prize and the right to host the gingerbread competition the following year.

"And, the brownies, which are very popular around the Schwartz household and throughout Peters, are simple to make and delicious."

The woman selected by Taste of Home as Mrs. Holiday will be an advocate, an ambassador and an inspiration—someone who brings the holidays to life in a fun and creative way.

Once crowned, Mrs. Holiday will conduct interviews, blog, make live appearances, participate in cooking segments and more.

"In three weeks, I will officially become an empty nester," Schwartz said. "It's time for me to try new things and figure out what I would like to do in the next chapter of my life. Being crowned Mrs. Holiday and all that goes with it would be an amazing opportunity!"
