Watch: Washington County Welcomes Home an Injured War Veteran

Welcome home, Sgt. Doug Vitale!

Residents in the McMurray area and beyond helped welcome home a way hero Saturday.

After spending nearly two years at the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Program in Tampa, Fla., for serious wounds from stepping on an improvised explosive device on Sept. 25, 2011, USMC  Sgt. Doug Vitale is back in Pittsburgh.

A smart home is being built for he and his wife, a Peters Township High School graduate.

A motorcade that included more than 80 motorcycles and emergency vehicles escorted him to the VFW Post 764 in McMurray, where a community ceremony took place.

Vitale’s return kicked off a full week of celebrations that includes a concert in his honor. For information on the concert, click here.
