Updated: Flooding, Power Outages Reported in Canon-McMillan Area

A storm that ripped through the region Tuesday night and Wednesday morning has caused major flooding and power outages in the area.

The Cecil Township fire departments were called out a handful of times Wednesday morning for water on roadways, as well as residents who were reporting as much as a foot of flood water in their homes.

Those traveling on state Route 980 in the Cecil area have said that it looks like a "pond"β€”and flooding has also been reported on Reissing Road in the township.

The creek that runs beneath the entrance to Ridgewood Heights was churning. Back yards were filled with flood water.

The creek was spilling over its banks in Cecil Park, too - with a pavilion, parts of the Montour Trail and a ball field under water.

Passers by stopped to take pictures and compare the storm damage to that of past storms.

The entrance to Glass Hill Road near district Judge Valerie Costanzo's office was not passable - and Cecil Township public works crews were on scene around 11 a.m.

Front yards were also flooded on state Route 980 from Cecil into Canonsburg.

Businesses in McDonald - including a bank - were under water, too.

Residents who live on Millers Run Road in Cecil were seen standing in what was left if their yards, watching as water pooled on their property.

A Muse man called to say a car needed to be dragged out of flood waters in Lawrence and that roads 'everywhere' were closed.

A downed tree caused a power outage in Southpointe, where Cecil police said traffic was backed up because traffic lights were also out. It has since been restored.

But police said that as of 1 p.m. water was receding.

Meanwhile, the West Penn Power website indicates that as many as 1,500 customers are without power in the Canonsburg-Cecil area. The website indicated that power would likely be restored by about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A North Strabane Fire Department spokesman indicated that there was "tons" of flooding," but no further information was immediately available.

Phone calls to Canonsburg Mayor David H. Rhome and fire Chief Tom Lawrence were not immediately returned Wednesday morning.
