Get Out: 9/11 Rememberances, a Play and a Garden Party

Don't know what you're doing yet this weekend? Here are our picks.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Canon-McMillan Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Where/When: 10th Street façade of the Courtyard Marriott and David L. Lawrence Convention Center garage façade, dusk to midnight, Sept. 7 to 18

Why Go?: Duquesne Light and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will present two temporary lighting memorials for the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. The memorials are meant for people to gather and reflect on the events of that historical day.

Where?/When?:  , 8 p.m., Thursday to Saturday

Why Go?: Enjoy this musical comedy at Little Lake Theatre. Three actors play 15 different characters in five different restaurants searching for one true love.

Why Go?: Children will build and decorate their own police car using this project kit.

Why Go?: Smell the fresh air and stretch your legs at Saturday Outdoors Hike. These one-hour hikes will cover a different topic each month while following the many trails around the classroom. These hikes are perfect for all ages and great for family activities that will give everyone a chance to connect with the nature found locally. Call 412-838-0064 to register.

Why Go?: Come sample Bedner's homegrown, farm-fresh veggies. You'll love these easy and healthy dishes that are prepared with the farm's produce and herbs. Recipes will be available to take home. The farm will post what's available to sample every Friday on the Taste of Bedner's Facebook event page.

Where/When: Lawrence VFW, 9:30 a.m., Sunday

Why Go?: Residents are invited to this memorial fundraiser in remembrance of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Lawrence VFW.

Where/When: South Park, 12 to 4 p.m., Sunday  

Why Go?: The first annual Pittsburgh 9/11 Heroes Run feature a 5K and 1-mile fun run to honor fallen American heroes . The Travis Manion Foundation's philosophy is to "honor the fallen by challenging the living." The 9/11 Heroes Run exemplifies this philosophy. It is an event that allows anyone to set a reasonable goal and demonstrate their commitment to honoring the sacrifices of our heroes through a physical endeavor—symbolic in nature, but powerful when multiplied individually and by community.

Why Go?: Washington County Historical Society is sponorsing the "Art in the Garden" event. There will be entertainment, refreshments and an art show.
