Best known as the winner of season 7 of “American Idol,” Cook has become a household name since stealing the show just over five years ago. Although he released his first album prior to “Idol,” his rocket to stardom came with his 2008 release, “David Cook” which was certified platinum.

Cook was born to rock and roll – making his musical debut during elementary school. Once the bug bit, there was no stopping Cook who received his first guitar as a teenager and participated in various choir and drama activities throughout his school years.

Music runs in the family blood – which is how Cook found himself on “American Idol.” He actually had no intention of trying out but instead came to support his brother.  After some coaxing from his family, he signed himself up and performed Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

Although his life has completely turned upside-down, Cook wasn’t in love with the Hollywood scene and recently relocated to Nashville to further fuel his creativity. According to Cook, the change has been great for his music.

“I think after living in LA for four years, I felt creatively unfulfilled,” said Cook. “Now I’ve got a creative community and it’s been really good for my writing.”

Today Cook is hitting the road with his band armed with new music and a small club tour getting him closer to fans. Changing up not only the music, but the venues have a new feel for Cook and his crew, but he’s loving it. That tour stops in Pittsburgh tonight and Cook is very excited.

“We’ve been to Pittsburgh a couple of times,” said Cook. “I’m hoping to find some time to see the sights. We’re excited to be on the road and playing our new stuff. As we get more time under our belts we’ve been feeling more comfortable.”

While there are changes, fans can certainly expect to hear many of their favorite. Though, the show will highlight Cook’s new material from his sophomore album, “The Loud Morning” creating for a fantastic evening.

“We’ll have a lot of songs for our fans,” said Cook. “We’ll have some new material and a relaxed atmosphere. The show will be very unique.”

Of course, there are a few surprises for fans – including a new instrument for Cook.

“We’re doing a lot of new things,” said Cook. “I’m playing keyboards for a song. We have a lot of new styles, sounds and instruments. The creative process has really taken us down new roads.”
