Weather Forecast Discussion for June 18-24, 2012:
As we head into the last few official days of Spring, our weather for much of the upcoming week will seem more like the Dog Days of Summer. Monday will begin on a warm and humid note, with a few hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms. A large ridge of high pressure will settle in just to our southeast for midweek, bringing mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and heat and high humidity. Our first heat wave of 2012 looks likely for the period of Tuesday through Thursday, with high temperatures each day approaching the lower 90's, just in time for the Summer Solstice (Wednesday, 7:09 PM EDT). An approaching cold front may trigger a few showers and thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon with more widespread activity likely Thursday night into early Friday. Cooler and less humid weather will follow for Friday as well as a return to some sunshine. Dry weather, generally fair skies, and more seasonal temperatures will continue into next weekend.
