Obituary: Charles C. McEwen Sr., Meteorologist in Vietnam

Charles C. McEwen Sr., 72, of McMurray died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 in

He was born Aug. 18, 1940 in Louisville, KY, the son of the late Edward L. and Elsie Kent McEwen.

Mr. McEwen was Lutheran.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during Vietnam as a meteorologist.

He was a member of the Canonsburg Sportsman’s Club.

He enjoyed shooting, fishing, woodworking, baking and spending time with family.

Mr. McEwen was a salesman for Conoco Oil.

He was well-known for storytelling and always telling a great joke.

Only July16, 1960 in New Jersey, he married Gail Felgentreu, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara McEwen of and Donna (Tim) Spina of North Strabane, two sons, Richard (Debbie) McEwen of Bethel Park and Charles C. McEwen of Richmond, VA.

He is also survived by one sister, Estella Burke of New Jersey, six grandchildren, Matthew (Elyse) McEwen, Jennifer McEwen, Mark McEwen, Megan Spina, Kayla Spina and Ashlyn Spina, as well as one great-grandson, Lochlan McEwen, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Grant.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday in the Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 E. College St in Canonsburg.

Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 8 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor James Meyers officiating. Interment will be held at a later date n Oak Spring Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association of the donor’s choice.
