Obituary: Jacob Vincent Vehar

Jacob Vincent Vehar II, 89, of Strabane, died Monday, May 28, 2012 in .

He was born July 19, 1922, a son of Jacob and Ivana Korvina Vehar.

Jacob served in England with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 553 of Strabane and American Legion Post 9021 of Houston.

He was also a member of of Canonsburg, S.N.P.J. Lodge 138 and K.S.K.J. Lodges of Strabane; a life member of Canonsburg Sportsmen's Club and the National Rifle Association.

Prior to retirement, he was a maintenance foreman for Pennsylvania Transformer.

On Oct. 7, 1950, he married Mary Almasy Vehar. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jacob "Jack" Vehar III and wife Barbara of Holbrook, TX, Thomas V. Vehar and wife Tamme of Chartiers Township, and Timothy Vehar of Strabane; a brother, James Vehar of Washington; two sisters, Helen Premro of Canonsburg and Jane (Bob) Wagner of Washington; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Matt Vehar, and a sister, Lucy Hart.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Ltd., 30 East College St., Canonsburg. Departing prayers will be said at 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment with full military rites accorded by combined honor guard of VFW Post 191 and American Legion Post 902 will follow in the Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray.
