Stanley D. Guzell Sr., 91, of Strabane, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 in St. Clair Hospital.
He was born June 21, 1921 in Canonsburg, a son of John and Ivanca Guzell. He served his country n the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Patrick Parish, an enthusiastic member of SNPJ, a member of the KSKJ, and the VFW.
Mr. Guzell excelled athletically, was a golden glove champion and loved to bowl and golf.
He enjoyed dancing to polka music, especially Slovenian Polkas.
On May 20, 1946 he married Caroline “Carey” Mirisciotti Guzell, who died June 9, 2011. He and Carey owned and operated Guzell’s Hardware Store in Canonsburg for nearly 50 years, and also managed other family businesses.
Surviving are two sons, Stanley Guzell Jr. (Barbara), of Poland, Ohio, Guy Guzell (Cheryl) of Canonsburg, two grandchildren, Gina Guzell Melnik, and Carolyn Guzell Kuzontkoski, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Guzell, step-brother, Joseph Sedmack, sisters Josephine “Babe” Gazvoda and Ella O’Hare.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sollon Funeral Home, 30 E. College St., Canonsburg, where a celebration of his life will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday with Deacon Joseph Cerenzia officiating.
