Obituary: William S. Stankas, of Canonsburg

Sollon Funeral Home in Canonsburg is handling arrangements.

William S. Stankas, 79, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born November 5, 1933 in Canonsburg, a son of the late George and Catherine Godish Stankas.

Bill graduated from Cecil High School in 1951 and served with the United States Army as Specialist Fourth Class. He worked as a steelworker for Universal Cyclops from 1959 until retirement in 1994 and was a member of R.F.A. of Bridgeville. Bill established Spring Valley Restaurant in 1974 and owned it until 1981. He enjoyed country living, farming, card playing, casinos and mostly spending time with his family.

Surviving are his loving wife, Valjean L. DiBiase Stankas , two daughters, Christina Ogden of Peters Twp, and Kathleen Jacobs (Norman) of Cecil, four grandchildren, William Ogden III, Alessandra, Nathaniel and Juliana Jacobs. He was preceded in death by one brother, George P Stankas, and son-in-law, William Ogden.

Viewing and services will be private and interment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray Arrangements entrusted to Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director.
