Ah, the anticipation, the preparation, the tradition, the celebration—sounds a bit like we are getting ready for Christmas!
Canonsburg’s annual Fourth of July celebration is just days away. That’s what I’m talkin' about! We LOVE our celebration here in the borough. And the celebration, the—49th annual—feels a bit like that holiday in December, only warmer, and we need sunscreen instead of mittens!
The town is painted red, white, and blue like no other I’ve seen.
The chairs? Depending on who you talk to, they are part of the anticipation and
preparation. They began lining Pike Street Saturday as people claimed their spots along the parade route. We are famous for this tradition and I’ve said many times: It’s part of our charm!
It’s also part of the tradition as families plan their Fourth of July holiday celebration, watching the parade, heading to Town Park for the festivities there, picnicking, and then the grand fireworks at Big Mac Stadium that night.
It’s been a family affair for many for 49 years. Fans of the celebration’s facebook page share memories of their childhood and the Fourth.
Our Parade of Chairs Contest is back—prettied up chairs on the parade route could garner cash prizes! To be included in the contest, make sure your chairs are out before 5 p.m. Sunday.
Judges will chose the most patriotic and most original. Winners will be announced on July 3, when we’ll be kicking off the holiday festivities downtown with our Blast Before the 4th event. Hope you can join us as we listen to the Washington County Jazz Ensemble and try our skills with the 94.5 3WS Sports Challenge! Start time is 5 p.m. and we’ll be at the Luksis Municipal Lot (68 E. Pike St.).
The Got Art Walk artisan gallery will be on display through July 11th in shop windows throughout the downtown. Check our website for locations and other details about the event.
Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July! Hope to see you downtown!
