Should Lawmakers Re-examine Gun Laws in Wake of Connecticut Shooting?

All of the 20 children killed Friday were age 6 or 7.

Within hours of Friday’s mass shooting in Newton, Conn. that , gun-control debates began raging across the country.

The shooter, according to Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance. All of the weapons were registered to and legally owned by his mother, Nancy Lanza, who was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds at her home.

In the days since the shootings, some Democrats in Congress have been pushing for more gun restrictions in the United States, including a ban on military-style assault weapons.

While President Barack Obama has not specifically mentioned gun control in speeches to the public, he has emphasized that something must be done to prevent more tragedies like the one at Sandy Hook.

Efforts to restrict access to high-powered weapons are likely to be opposed by many Republicans as a violation to the U.S. Constitution's right to bear arms.

In recent months, there have been mass shootings at a movie house in Aurora, CO, during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and at a mall in Oregon.

Locally, two people died and seven people were injured in March after John Shick went on a shooting rampage at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Police in turn shot and killed Shick.

We want to know what you think? Should lawmakers re-examine gun laws? Is it fair to blame guns for mass shootings, or should the blame fall to people who opt to fire them?

What I think should be done is. Send the military to take every gun off the market. Also out of private and residental homes. It might not be a complete answer but that will stop a lot. Start trashing these things because like this cannot just keeping happening. You guys are thinking about better laws but you are still taking too much time to do so. This should be dealt with before hand of things this evening on. Plus its continuously happening. America let's get it together. I will like to send condolences to every family of lost and still will like to tell you God hasn't forgotten. Please keep your heads to the skys and pray to the heavens. Amen #Therealguyfromthasky!!!

Having people with lots of gun should not be. 1 person 1 or 2 if the person is a hunter but people having lots of gun and the parents having lots of gun and kids doing that stuff is because they are being missed treaten at home. Or being happy house with gun you don't see this happend.

The events in Newtown left 28 people dead, all at the hands of a gunman. Twenty-eight people, ... the same number of people killed every day because of drunken driving, ... yes EVERY DAY. Pointing this out is not to marginalize the horrible thing that happened at Newtown. But, the call is to "prevent loss of any more lives." If this reasoning is to be the case, why not the same outrage against drunken drivers? The "28" count is not a single event, rather EVERY DAY. Please reconcile for me, please. Thank you. P.S. To say "it isn't the same," or "not equivalent," or "... these were children...," tell us why the cause of loss of life, or the age of the deceased, is relevant to the discussion.

Kenyatta that would be a beautiful world but their is evil in this world and countries that want us wiped off the map , who is going to take those guns. What happen was an unbelievable event but it would be nothing like what terriorist would do if they knew if they had a free rein to kill anyone they felt couldn't defend themselves. I have rifles because we hunt and we use the meat should I also loose my rights? I believe with you on one item and that is God and he hasn't forgotten those families and he has his arms around each and everyone of those precious childrens.

I posted this in the other forum, it's worth repeating: I think the tragedy is heartbreaking, but disarming the 99 % of law abiding citizens against the 1% worthless scumbags who will get guns illegally isn't the answer. The problem is this: You DO NOT force "THE WORLD IS COMING AT AN END" "Stockpile the GUNS!!" "ANARCHY IS HERE!!" or any other over zealous positions of doom, gloom, hate or otherwise to kids with mental health issues. While Adam Lanza committed an atrocious unforgivable act, it is without a doubt that its his family and surroundings (aka mom and whoever else was close to him) who were responsible for this kid to go off the deep end, likely after years and years of brainwashing -- intentional or not. While we don't like to point fingers and try to say things like 'they did all they could', etc etc, some parents simply do NOT do all they could, ignoring and blowing off signs and issues until it's too late, complete with all the excuses to go along with it.

Gun owner , I am a gun owner and I was raised around gus since I was born . I was always taught that guns were not toys and that if I was caught touching them with out adult supervision I was punished. My guns are all under lock and key and I'm the only one with the key. Why did this young man have access to these guns if they belonged to his mom? I blame the government the schools and speical interst groups for this, WHY? As a child if did something wrong I got a beating for it . I also think removeing religon from the schools was a bad idea I also think that the teachers are at falt for teaching the students if your parents slap you or spank you that it is abuse , it NEVER hurt me and i turned out ok. the kids today do not respect the adults and if you thouch them they cry abuse! So taking my guns I fill is not the answer.
