Burnt-Out Headlight and Open Beer Can Prompt DUI Arrest in Cecil

The incident happened Friday evening.

A Cecil man was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a DUI-related suspended license, and was given a citation for a burnt-out headlight after a traffic stop in the township Friday night.

Police said that Glenn A. Gauthier Jr., 31, was driving south on state Route 980 when Cecil Township officers spotted the broken headlight, noted the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop.

Gauthier continued driving for about a half-mile before pulling over, police said.

When officers approached the vehicle, the man could not provide license, registration and insurance information. Police said Gauthier's eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and that there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him.

There was also an open beer can in car in plain view, police said.

Police said the man admitted to drinking two beers, at which time he was asked to submit to a field sobriety test—one that officers said showed signs of impairment.

Gauthier was then taken into custody for suspected DUI, and transported to the Cecil Township Police Department for a breath test.

That test showed that he had a .152 percent blood alcohol content, police said.

The charges will proceed by summons.
