New Details Released Regarding Circumstances Leading to 2-Year-Old's Drowning

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco on Tuesday issued the cause of death for a 2-year-old Canonsburg boy found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Richland Avenue in the borough Monday.

Warco said in the release that Blake M. Metzger's death was a result of drowning.

The boy was reportedly discovered by family members and rushed to Canonsburg General Hospital where he was pronounced dead Monday.

The manner of death is pending an investigation, Warco said in the release.

Warco also released further details of what happened leading to Metzger being discovered.

The child was being attended to by family members when the incident happened.

"A family member suffered a medical emergency and other persons there assisted that family member immediately," Warco said in the release. "After a few minutes a grandmother looked for the child and found him at the bottom of the pool."

Warco said that the family called Washington County 911 twice in a five-minute span to request emergency assistance.
