No Injuries in Weekend Accident on I-79

The one-vehicle accident occurred on Saturday evening.

There were no injuries in an accident that temporarily snared traffic at the Southpointe exit on I-79 on Saturday, but one local fire chief said the car involved is likely totaled.

State police, the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department and Southbridge EMS responded to the one-vehicle accident, which occurred on Saturday evening just before 6 p.m. on the Southpointe exit ramp on I-79 north.

Lawrence VFD Chief Stan Sadowski said it wasn't a severe accident, and that it occurred when the driver lost control of the car on the exit ramp and left the roadway.

"The car is probably totaled," he said. "The airbag deployed. Once it left the roadway [the driver] didn't have any control of the car, and it hit some boulders on the shoulder."

Two men, both in their 20s, were inside the car. Sadowski said the driver will not be charged.
