$1 Million in Road Improvements Slated for Cecil

See if your road is on the list.

Editor's Note: This story was edited at 9:15 a.m. Friday.

Cecil Township Board of Supervisors this week voted to proceed with the bidding process for its $1 million road program.

Township Manager Don Gennuso said the board hopes to send bid packages out this month and be in a position to open the bids and award the contract next month.

"The board hopes to start the project as soon as possible in the spring," Gennuso said.

The project is being paid for through the township's allotment of liquid fuel money, which amounts to about $700,000. Another $250,000 of the cost will be covered by local impact fee money related to Marcellus Shale drilling, and the remaining $135,000 will be paid with the township's local share of casino revenue.

The following roads are included in the project.

  • Commerce Boulevard from Mayview Road to the terminus
  • Stretches of Freedom Drive
  • Gladden Road from state Route 980 to the township line
  • Second Stree in Lawrence from School Street to Lawrence Street
  • School Hill Road from Morganza to Morganza
  • Burnside Road from Muse-Bishop Road to Papp Road
  • Ridgeway Street from Muse-Bishop to its terminus
  • Bonaire Drive from Ridgewood to its terminus
  • McConnell Road from Muse-Bishop to Stonecrest
  • Grange Road from Millers Run to Coleman Road

Genusso said the township's public works crew would also be making road improvements to other streets.

What do you think of the list? What other streets would you like to see upgraded?

Residents have been complaining for a long time now their is light at the end of the tunnel. Supervisor Cowden had taken on this fight since she was elected and worked hard to get the other supervisors to agree. Lets keep up the good work to improve our roads so that we live up to the great place to live signs that are posted. When you are choosing roads don't forget the old communities we pay taxes also.

Nothing planned for Depaoli, Coleman or Grange? That's a shame. I would hate having to travel on those roads everyday. I enjoy shopping at Benders but I try to avoid those roads. They are terrible.
Amanda Gillooly (Editor) January 10, 2013 at 04:07 pm
Jeff, those roads are not included in the $1 million road plan, but it is possible that the public works crew could do some improvements on those throughways.

I do not know where Don Gennuso got his list for the road repair. Grange road was on the list. It was discussed at the twp monthly meeting. Don Gennuso was at the meeting. Were you there Amanda?
Amanda Gillooly (Editor) January 10, 2013 at 10:38 pm
I was not. The roads included above were given to me on a list from the township when I went in to speak with Mr. Gennuso Tuesday morning. But I will double check!
Anna Coen January 11, 2013 at 01:27 am
Amanda, Grange was on the list., perhaps an oversight? And yes the citizen's of Cecil are finally getting their roads repaired and this was spear- headed by Supervisor Cowden.
Amanda Gillooly (Editor) January 11, 2013 at 01:33 am
Thanks, Anna!

Kimberly the chief of police did take money and put it back. Cecil Twp has refused many request toRead More see the audit report. Observer Reporter has taken it to court. Why should the chief get retirement and the person who took the money from the PTA be charged with crime?
Kimberly June 14, 2013 at 09:28 am
Joe- it appears that all the comments made by "seriously" have been removed by someone.
Roger June 14, 2013 at 09:55 pm
Seriously" was a short-time faux name, just as we suspected. Clearly, Patch boards haveRead More reached a point where anybody who defends Mr. White, or anybody choosing to refute an objector to Mr. White, is suspect. These commenters have no credibility, rightly or wrongly. A poisoned headwater taints the whole stream. This seems to be the case with any thread or topic related to Mr. White.
Donald Roessler June 10, 2013 at 04:46 pm
Nice try Jesse. "Seriously".

http://www.dve.com/pages/randy-baumann.html?article=11371209#.UbZLYEwQPAI.email Seriously Read theRead More above information. See how he used Senator Tim Solobay name. Post your response after you read it. Why would you want anyone Jesse White to be their State Rep.? Resign Resign Resign
Kittypepper June 15, 2013 at 09:48 pm
The letter to the editor in last Sunday O-R shows that Jesse was outraged over his actions and haveRead More noted that his "pugnacity" while in office got the better of him....I spoke with her and Unfortunately or fortunately, she is advising all of White's constituents to know that this pugnacity has been present, and often misguided, well before his time in office and we should seriously reconsider who is representing us in Harrisburg. When I spoke with her and she said 18 years ago, White attacked her in the press while he was a student at Beth Center writing for the "Young Observer" column in the O-R. At that time she was a school board director. Imagine him being a "savior" for a radical student group he helped form...And all these years have passed and he still has a real problem. Once a problem child always a problem child.....I guess he is still trying to build up his low esteem at the expense of others. I just don't think he will ever change..... I feel sorry for anyone that has daily contact with him.....

Amanda is also on vacation.
James Barth June 16, 2013 at 03:06 pm
Thomas Smith, I sent an email to Amanda, and, the automatic reply stated she was on vacation. IRead More see that your comment has not been deleted. Are you going to write an apology? As far as telling Donald that "activists only like their version of the Truth!!!", think, for a second, to whom you are writing. What is Donald, if not an activist. Full disclosure (again): I am an activist. By the way, I saw a comment you made a couple of years ago in ProPublica, stating that you were 77 years old (so, you must be 79 now, congratulations). Are you not an "activist"?
James Barth June 16, 2013 at 09:33 am
Donald Roessler, Kittypepper, Are you the same personRead More ?????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Mr. Roessler, as to your constant, Glen Beck-ian attempts to find "guilt" by association, why would you feel that reading the ShaleShock blog is an offense that would lessen the credibility of another person? Would you like to burn books too?
Me June 16, 2013 at 10:04 am
Pleeeeeese Mr. Barth stop attacking the people of Pa State Rep 46th district. We have problems weRead More have Have Jesse White. Send prayers.

Yeah the fake Solobay tweets were highly, and I mean highly inappropriate. They are way moreRead More disturbing than anything that has come out yet. Surprisingly the account was suspended an hour after the article was posted. Hmmm. There are also fake accounts for Larry Maggi @notlarrymaggi and rep Christiana @fakejimmy15. They are pretty embarrassing as well. If Prouder American or Frank Renyolds are reading this how about shutting them down. Thank you
Thomas Smith June 8, 2013 at 10:18 am
Donald the Washington county DA will be coming up with the appropriate charges if he can. I guessRead More you will have to be satisfied with that for now. My question is what what happens when he resigns, or his party asks him to step down. Will our district have a special election? Does the Gov. appoint someone to the seat? How will we get a voice again since we don't have one now.
Kittypepper June 16, 2013 at 11:50 am
Thomas, He has had a problem since he was in High School at Beth center when he attacked a SchoolRead More Board member. This man has had issues since he was growing up. As far as someone to replace him, anything would be better than we have now.... Even Mickey Mouse would do a better job, at least Mickey has ethics....

I bought local honey for my son's allergies, but he doesn't like the texture of honey. Therefore, IRead More do not know how well it works on allergy reliefe. BUT... I do know that there are different kinds of local honey. You need to know what airborn allergies affect you the most. I bought pure wild flower honey at the Pumpkin Festival in Houston in the fall. The guys name was Perry Arlia and he is from Washington. 724-225-3701 and 724-986-9848 are the phone numbers on his card that I got with the honey. He's known as the Beekeeper. I hope this much helps you. Good luck!
