27 Bids Received for Canonsburg Borough Building Renovation

The contract for the more than $1 million project is expected to be awarded at council's meeting next Monday.

There were 27 bids for various phases of the renovation of the Canonsburg borough building were received and opened by council Monday.

The lowest responsible bidder will be awarded the contract next Monday, borough Manager Terry Hazlett said, adding that the bids include several alternatives and add-ons.

This is the second time bids have been sought for the project.

The original advertising for the project did not meet the standards of the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County, whose funds are paying for handicapped-accessible alterations to restrooms and other areas.

The renovation, which is expected to cost around $1.2 million, also includes remodeling of the police department and the purchase of a generator.

The borough also to facilitate the project, which is expected to begin next month.

In other business, it was also announced that the borough received $97,790 from the Public Utility Commission for its 2011 Act 13 impact fee. A similar amount is expected to be received for 2012 early this year.

Also at the meeting, Hazlett presented council with a list of 2013 goals and announced that Callie Munch had been hired as a part-time human resources director.
