Canonsburg Council met for more than three hours Tuesday to discuss the 2013 budget.
Although it was presented with an essentially balanced budget—one with no new expenditures—council heard requests from all departments.
Proposals for a full-time paid fireman, part-time human resources person, clerical help, police department office furniture and additional equipment for the the public works department were presented.
Borough Manager Terry Hazlett also asked council to consider a designated two mills for parks and recreation funding.
Council also discussed filling the position of the public works director. The current director, Chester Osiecki, is retiring at the end of October.
Council also set a second budget workshop meeting—which is open to the public.
That meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22.
