Canonsburg Hires Two Part-Time Police Officers

One of them—Ashley Price—is the borough's first female officer.

Council voted 8-0 Monday to hire two new part-time police officers—one of whom will be the first woman to hold that position in the borough.

Council hired Ashley Price, of Canonsburg, and Thomas O'Rourke, of Cecil Township. Both are expected to start within the next month, police Chief R.T. Bell said.

Price and O'Rourke were selected from a pool of 11 "very talented" applicants, he said.

Both will earn $17 per hour.

"It's a positive move," Bell said, adding that the part-time officers will help complement the 's 15 full-time officers.

Canonsburg Mayor David H. Rhome, who oversees the police department, has  said the two new members will help with scheduling and also "bolster manpower."
