UPDATED: Cecil Protesters Travel To Harrisburg to Ask for White to Resign

Editor's Note: This story was updated at 4:21 p.m. to include a statement released by state Rep. Jesse White.

A group of Cecil Township protesters traveled to Harrisburg Tuesday to demand state Rep. Jesse White's resignation—with some calling for him to go to jail.

One of the protesters is Cecil Township Supervisor Elizabeth Cowden, sources confirmed.

Cowden is reportedly one of about 20 residents—mostly retirees—who boarded a bus to the Capitol—and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review indicates that they wore signs calling for his resignation, that he be ousted from his seat or that he be jailed.

The protest regards recent reports that White, D-Cecil, used online aliases on various websites to attack constituents and those with pro-drilling views in the comments section. White initially had denied making such comments but later issued an apology for his actions.

White was reportedly on the state House floor Tuesday morning, and did not return a voicemail seeking comment on the matter.

However, the lawmaker released the following statement around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday:

“There is a time for politics and a time for governing. I remain focused on my legislative responsibilities and on representing all of the more than 60,000 constituents in my legislative district, including those who disagree with me.”

Cowden could not immediately be reached for comment.
