Cecil Residents Share Concerns About Worstell Impoundment

A public hearing was held Tuesday to allow residents to "guide the township in its dealings with Range Resources" and the Worstell impoundment, according to the Washington Observer-Reporter.

A public hearing in Cecil Township on Tuesday allowed residents the opportunity to speak to and with township supervisors about the Worstell impoundment on Swihart Road.

According to a report from the Washington Observer-Reporter, township Chairman Tom Casciola intended the hearing to be a conversation in which resident could help guide commissioners in their dealing with Range Resources, which operates the impoundment.

Casciola told residents that township officials had learned little from their involvement in private meetings last month with both Range Resources and the state Department of Environmental Protection. Casciola said Range representatives indicated that they plan to continue operating the impoundment, and that they can control the number of trucks traveling Swihart Road—a concern for nearby residents—according to the Observer.

Range Resources officials were invited to, but did not attend, Tuesday's meeting.
