Cecil Supervisor Again Asks For Meeting With Range Resources

Cecil Township Supervisor Elizabeth Cowden has again requested a meeting with Southpointe-based Marcellus Shale company Range Resources.

'Lets meet and stop this nonsense,' she said, referring to lawsuits filed by the company against the township.

The board voted earlier this year to meet with the company behind closed doors.

However, that decision was rescinded last month after Supervisor Andy Schrader mentioned to the board that the township's insurance carrier advised against it.

Township Manager Don Gennuso said he would contact the insurance carrier - which covers the cost of some legal costs - to see if such a meeting would be appropriate.

Residents in attendance said they believed that such a meeting with the company should be public so that taxpayers may have a right to attend and comment.

One resident, Toni Zombeck, of the Muse Volunteer Fire Department, added that bad blood between the township and Range has also affected those in the fire service.

She asked supervisors to consider that other fire departments in the area have received thousands of dollars in donations from the company—but not those in Cecil.

Zombeck said that were the two entities were on better terms, the company might have agreed to purchase a piece of equipment Muse VFD needs—a thermal imaging camera that costs $25,000.
