Cecil Township Supervisors and Range Resources Reschedule Public Workshop

The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in the township building.

A workshop session between the Cecil Township Board of Supervisors and Range Resources that was previously canceled has been rescheduled.

Township Manager Don Gennuso said Friday that the public meeting—at which no formal action will be taken—will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in the municipal building.

A public notice will appear in the Observer-Reporter newspaper and on the township website Monday, he said.

What isn’t known?

“I’m not aware of the context of the meeting,” Gennuso said. “I have not been given an agenda by Range Resources.”

It was also unclear whether public comment would be taken during the workshop.

Gennuso said that while it has been past practice for the supervisors to take comments from audience members during other work sessions, that’s all the township could control.

“What we cannot control is whether Range will respond to questions from the public,” he said, adding that its presentation is intended for the board.

A previous meeting between the board and the Southpointe-based company had been intended to discuss their working relationship and how the pair could “move forward in a positive direction,” the township manager said.

However, that session was canceled by Range the night the meeting was to take place because state Rep. Jesse White, D-Cecil, had posted information about it on his Facebook page, according to the Observer-Reporter newspaper.

Gennuso said that while White had not come up in discussions regarding the rescheduled meeting, that the legislator was “more than welcome to attend”—just as every resident is.

Reached for comment Friday, White said he plans on attending "and will continue my practice of utilizing social media to inform the public about this public meeting.”

And he said he urges Range Resources and Cecil Township officials to provide the public “with a clear and detailed agenda of the issues to be discussed in advance so we can have an orderly, fact-based and positive discussion about the issues facing our communities, hopefully with Range answering questions from the public.”

White continued: “Allowing public comment on sometimes-contentious issues is a cornerstone to building accountability, and like many residents, I look forward to listening to a real discussion instead of the same one-sided talking points we've heard for years.”

And he said he wanted to be clear: “I have no intention of creating a distraction of any kind, but I hope this isn't just a dog-and-pony show with no substance and no real answers. The public deserves better.”

Range Resources spokesman Jim Cannon could not be reached on his cell phone Friday afternoon.

Rep. White is right about one thing, that the public deserves better....particularly when it comes to elected officials. He's sick of the "dog and pony show" and "same one sides talking points" - he needs to take a look in the mirror in my opinion!

"And when hostile internet blogger "Margaret" was asked to provide detail as to why she shows such disdain towards Rep. White, she responded with...... nothing of any real substance......."

" ... please contact my office at 724-746-3677 and I will be happy to talk with you face to face. ...." Yea, it only took the second post to get the invite posted in this thread. We are plussed, ... maybe, first next time ...?

If Range Resources was really interested in "moving forward in a positive direction", they wouldn't be acting as if they fear Rep White.

"In depth coverage of the real issues"? By the PATCH??? Get real, people, the Patch is a Huffington post related microblog. Nothing more. It is the virtual equivalent of the coffee shop where the lazy gather to complain. To the topic at hand: if I were Range Resources, I wouldn't listen to a pack of wild citizens either. They are speaking directly to the people they have to: your elected officials. You people put them in office, year, after year, after nauseating year so let them do their job. Your voice does not count, only your vote. And trust me, Scott, a company as large as range does not "fear" Rep. White. He is a minor bump in the road. He has shown himself to be corruptible in the past (fly me to the Superbowl, Bro?) so he will be corrupted again when the time is right.

Mr. Kranz, if you don't think this site is worth your time, please feel free to visit the billion other sites on the internet. But to log on for the sole purpose of making nasty comments is just mean-spirited and disrespectful.

If Rep White rally wanted things to go smoothly he wouldn't have started the issue all over again. He would have just left the papers handle the report of the meeting. Then no one would have to have to defend him and his repeated actions.
Jesse White December 01, 2012 at 06:20 PM
For the record, I did not "start this issue". Range approached the township and scheduled the meeting and I was called and asked by a reporter. What specifically in my comments in this article do you disagree with?
cecil resident December 01, 2012 at 07:27 PM
Who said I disagreed with any thing you said you are doing the same as last time facebook and posting on the comments which is very well in your right to do so. You claim to be the better person so why didn't you answer Amanda questions and leave it at that ,I think with our children we call that pushing buttons.
Jesse White December 01, 2012 at 07:42 PM
So you don't disagree with anything I said, but you criticized me for saying it anyhow (twice, if you count that last comment). I don't get your point.
cecil resident December 01, 2012 at 08:12 PM
I didn't disagree with what you said on the comments because you said the very same thing the last time your same old taking points call me, face to face, etc.and I said you had every right to say it this is America. But like I stated you are doing like our children trying to stir things up you know which buttons to push. couldn't just state you taking points to the reporter rush right in post a comment, then facebook etc.push them buttons and lets see what you can stir up.
Jesse White December 01, 2012 at 08:46 PM
So now the problem is that I offer to talk to people who disagree with my viewpoints so we could come to a better understanding of one another? Isn't that what an elected official is supposed to do?
cecil resident December 02, 2012 at 01:32 AM
I have watch you talk to people who disagree with you and I can see why soom don't want to talk to you one on one. . Unlike some people I look at both sides before I make my choice I don't follow anyone or any company blindly. I have never resorted to calling people names or disrepected you or the office you hold. And maybe it is time for you to be the fair person you claim to be and tell your followers to be respectful to the people who disagree with you isn't that what an elected offical supposed to do and set an example of free speech and respect even when you don't agree with you.

Prouder American - I deleted your comment because it contained name-calling and personal attacks. And Gerry, I am a trained journalist and write real news—so I think your comment is off base. If I may ever be of assistance to either of you, just give me a ring at 724-510-5659. Thanks!
Prouder American December 02, 2012 at 02:49 AM
Sorry. I was just pointing out that Janice Gibbs (aka Proud American) doesn't make much sense.
Ed Vicheck December 02, 2012 at 02:57 AM
Let's be fair Jesse never gave the time or date, that was in the article. All I read on his page was: "UPDATE: I want to make the public aware of the meeting being rescheduled and would urge interested residents to attend, but want to be very clear that I am NOT advocating for any disruptions or disturbances of any kind. Please feel free to comment and/or SHARE on your Facebook page. What do you think? Should the public be allowed to ask questions? Should Range agree to answer them? Does it make sense to have a public meeting without a clear and specific list of items to be discussed?"
Ed Vicheck December 02, 2012 at 03:06 AM
Oh and he said, he would urge interested residents to attend. Residents, not everyone. Under the Sunshine act, In an open meeting anyone can attend, but only residents of the district have the right to speak, Supervisors can make that rule at the beginning of the meeting.
Me December 02, 2012 at 07:04 AM
Proud America What did you do? Are you going to jail? Did you comment on Mr. White. You know Miss Amanda doesn't like that. Did You know She is a trained journalist and she said she writes real news. Isn't that lovely.
Amanda Gillooly December 02, 2012 at 01:25 PM
Me - The comment deleted (if you really need to know) did not involve Rep. White - it was a personal attack about one of the other commenters. You seem to have some problem with me as a reporter, as your posts are negative. If you would like to speak with me (as I have offered in the past), just give me a call. Again I will post my cell phone number: 724-510-5659. Anyone else who would like to speak with me? More than welcome. Give me a ring.
