Deterioration Prompts Closure of Cecil Township Bridge

A Cecil Township bridge has been closed indefinitely because of deterioration.

Known as the Scott Bridge, it is a span that carries Galati Road over Millers Run Road.

According to a memorandum issued by the Washington County Bridge Department, the span was closed Friday and will remain out of commission until further notice.

Reached this week, Cecil Township Manager Don Gennuso said he was just informed of the closure the morning before the bridge was closed.

"No other details were available from the county as to when it would be replaced or repaired," he said.

A bridge department official said the county is looking into remediation and replacement options for the single-lane bridge, which was built in 1890.

"It's just old age," the official said. "It's had issues on past inspections."
