'Hot Diggity!' Oldies Festival Back for Another Year

The festival return—in a slightly different form.

Last year’s “Hot Diggity Dog” festival was created as a one-time event honoring the 100th birthday of Canonsburg's native son, Perry Como.

But borough Manager Terry Hazlett said it will return this spring—but in a slightly different form.

He said the two-day festival exceeded everyone’s expectations by way of attendance, which caught the attention of the America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame committee.

The committee announced Friday that it will be presenting “Hot Diggity Dog” days May 18 and 19 and that the spotlight would be on oldies bands.

Presenting the festival the same weekend as the National Pike festival seemed to be a good fit, Hazlett, who described the event as an amalgamation of “Hot Diggity Dog Days” and the former “Doowopalooza” festival, said.

The fundraising event for the hall of fame will include, in addition to oldies bands, food booths, crafts, a children’s area and attractions geared specifically to the 1950s and 1960s era.

America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame is expected to announce its initial inductees later this month. The temporary home of the national hall of fame will be in the downtown area of Canonsburg—the same area where the “Hot Diggity Dog” festival will take place.
