Report: Southern Beltway on Hold

There are funding issues for the proposed toll road.

Southern Beltway construction has come to a halt due to funding issues, according to the Observer-Reporter.

The $700 million plan for 13-mile toll road would link Interstate 79 to Route 22 and pass through Cecil Township reportedly came to a stop when the state House and Senate couldn't agree on a transportation bill during last month's budget negotiations.

State officials say they will continue to debate the issue this fall.

The Turnpike Commission has already invested $50 million to purchases and demolish 100 properties, according to the newspaper.
