Town Park Pool = Saved

A Saturday fundraiser was punctuated by two surprise donations totaling $125,000.

A crowd of 325 who were dining and dancing in Town Park Pool for a fundraiser Saturday heard Bill Sarris make the announcement: That Sarris Candies would be donating $100,000 toward the price of a liner.

On the same night, Velma Jeffries Youth Activities also gave $25,000 toward the project, borough Manager Terry Hazlett said.

Those two donations, along with the $20,000 expected to be raised by the "Dine in the Pool" event, should provide enough funds to complete the liner installation, he added.

Work on removing the old liner is expected to begin this week.

Canonsburg Parks and Recreation Board  sponsored what organizers called a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience—dinner and dancing inside the park pool—that included a prime rib dinner provided by Texas Roadhouse and appetizers and desserts donated by area businesses.

The liner is expected to be installed this fall, and the pool will open as planned next Memorial Day weekend.
