Vote on Range Resources Application Stalled

Planning Commission members could not take a vote Monday on an application by Range Resources because the majority of voting members hold leases with the drilling company.

The North Strabane Township Planning Commission could not vote earlier this week on an application by Range Resources because the majority of commission members have leases with the drilling company and abstained from the vote, according to a report from the Washington Observer-Reporter.

The Observer reports that three of the four voting members who attended Monday's meeting hold leases with Range Resources, and so they abstained from a vote on the drilling company's application for a gas well pad to be located on property owned by Christy Gas Co. on Christy Road.

Township solicitor James Jeffries is preparing an opinion regarding whether or not it would be appropriate for the commission members to vote on the issue, and the issue might come up again at the September meeting, according to the report.
