C-M Spotlight: Students, Teachers Lauded for Accomplishments

The students and teachers in the Canon-McMillan School District are doing some great things. Check out their achievements—which were recently recognized at a recent board meeting.

Canon-McMillan School administrators and directors this week lauded many of its students and faculty members for titles earned, awards won and grants garnered.

The board recognized the following:

  • English Teacher Lori Freeze was selected as master teacher for the Washington & Jefferson College and Benedum Master Teacher Grant Educational Exchange.
  • The following students won Nooks for participating in the First Annual Literacy Writing Contest. They include: Brooke Novic, a kindergartner at , Bylan Bushmire, a first-grader at School, Bode Dagen, a first-grader at , Daniel Bishop, a second-grader at , and Jamie Nealon, a third-grader at .
  • students Charlie Harr, David Stawowczyk, Nicole Fitch, Jonathan Klan and Josh Palma had the highest team score in a regional math competition. The team came in fourth place and competed against schools from Bedford, Cambria, Cetre, Fayette, Huntingdon, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.
  • Canonsburg Middle School Technology Education teacher Eric Mychalishyn recently received a $4,000 grant from the . The money will be used to purchase software for the eighth-grade automated technologies class to program the lab’s CNC machine with three-dimension software.
  • Cecil Elementary and South Central Elementary each received a $5,000 Lowes green playground grant.
