Longtime Canon-Mac Teacher Retiring, School Board Appoints Principal

Here's a roundup of the personnel moves made at the Canon-McMillan School Board meeting Monday.

Canon-McMillan School Board made several personnel moves during its voting meeting Monday night.

Here’s who retired, was hired and who resigned:

  • Directors accepted the resignation of Michael Lockman from his position as an elementary music instructor. It becomes effective at the end of the day on Jan. 17 and is for the purpose of retirement. He has been employed by the district for more than 35 years.
  • Directors accepted the resignation of Rebecca O’Neil from her position as a second-grade teacher at South Central Elementary School effective at the end of the day on Nov. 27.
  • The board also accepted the resignation of varsity head football coach Tim Sohyda (to read the whole story, click here).
  • Directors appointed Tula Dziak as the principal of Cecil Elementary School at an annual salary of $71,644 effective Nov. 20.
  • The board also increased the annual salary of facilities coordinator Matthew Zewalk to $70,000 effective Nov. 20.
  • Directors hired Patty Haney as a temporary 10-month secretary at North Strabane Intermediate School from Dec. 18 through March 22, 2013.
  • The board hired Charlotte Masco as a paraeducator at the high school, and Debra Seckar as paraeducator at Borland Manor.
  • Courtney Grubich was also named the girls assistant varsity basketball coach. Her salary will be $4,669.

In other business, the board appointed Peacock Keller as the district's solicitor effective at the December reorganization meeting. The firm will replace Basso, Vreeland and Associates.

The board also appointed Bill Andrews of Andrews & Price as special counsel for negotiations with the Canon-McMillan Education Association.
