Spotlight: Canon-Mac Students Honored

The Canon-McMillan School Board this week honored numerous students—including those on the high school wrestling team—for their achievements.

The wrestling team received for its championship season—this time from the district's board of directors.

The board recognized the team at its meeting Monday, shaking hands with Coach Chris Mary and his wrestlers and handing out awards.

"The wrestling team should be recognized for their record of 26 wins and no losses and for being Section 4 champs, WPIAL champs, PIAA team dual champs, PIAA southwest regional champs, PIAA individual tournament champs, Powerade runner up, North Canton Holiday Tournament champs, Virginia Duals National Division team champs and Greenville Dual champs," Subsitute Superintendent Michael Daniels read into the record Monday.

The board also recognized Glenn McGee, of ; Kelsey Jersey, of Canon-McMillan High School; Brooke Bioni, of ; and Nicholas Gasparovic, of for participating in the University of Pittsburgh's SMART Schools research study. Each student won an iPad for their participation.

Rylee Kirsch, of Canonsburg Middle School, was also honored by the board Monday. Rylee was first place out of 2,700 entries in the Pittsburgh Pirates Jackie Robinson Essay and Poetry Contest. She will be recognized for her poem at Friday's Pirates game. Her middle school sponsoring teacher was Rebecca Wolf. The contest, which was open to students in grades three through eight in the Pirates market area, challenged students to write about Robinson's nine values for success in either a poem or an essay.
