Spotlight: Canon-McMillan Coach Honored, Director Recognized and Principal Promoted

These accomplishments were recognized this week by the Canon-McMillan School District's board of directors.

The Canon-McMillan School District's board of directors this week recognized the following accomplishments:

  • The administration and school board honored boys soccer Coach Larry Fingers for being named Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association's Male AAA Coach of the Year, WPIAL Coach of the Year, and for his boys soccer team being 2012 WPIAL Team Champions.
  • School Director Joe Zupancic was recognized by a member of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for his "master director" achievement.
  • The Western Area Career and Technology students in Justin Doyle’s masonry class were commended for the construction of the new sign at school's administrative office.
  • First Street Elementary held a food drive Jan. 7-17 that resulted in 2,598 non-perishable food items being collected for the Canonsburg Food Bank. The second grade classes collect the most items with 1,447.
  • The high school wrestling team was congratulated for winning its second consecutive PIAA team championship.
  • The board also voted to approve the promotion of Bob Kleinhans to principal at Cecil Intermediate School.
