Upper St. Clair Routs Canon-McMillan

Panthers improve to 2-0 while Big Macs still seek first win.

On paper, it looked like a mismatch: Upper St. Clair, which advanced to last year’s WPIAL Class AAAA championship game, vs. , a team that has one win since 2009.

But you never know. That’s why they play the games.

Unfortunately for the Big Macs, Friday’s contest lived down to the apparent disparity, as the Panthers scored early and often on the way to a 50-0 victory.

Tim Witenske caught a touchdown pass from Pete Coughlin following a blocked punt less than one minute into the game, and Upper St. Clair never looked back. The score was 43-0 at halftime.

Upper St. Clair (2-0) takes on Southeastern Conference rival Peters Township (2-0) next Friday, while Canon-McMillan (0-2) travels to Pittsburgh Central Catholic (2-0) for a non-conference game.

I feel bad for the players. This school district needs to hire coaches who know how to coach. This was the first game I have been back to in 30 years as an alumni, and I was completely embarrassed by the display.
