We go to public events and sing "God Bless America." Most Presidents end an address with "God Bless America." These are essentially prayers (still surprised some groups don't raise objections) asking God for His blessing. The prayer, in itself, is commendable. However, why should we expect God to bless America. Many of our citizens have turned their backs on Him. Many reject His commands (not suggestions). While rejecting Him, we continue to ask Him to bless. The setting in Exodus is like other times in history. God promised blessing when His name was revered and the people served Him. When they turned away, they were disciplined, and His blessing withheld. Why should we expect anything different from an immutable God?

Thank you Roger for your comment. I agree with you that many folks ask for God's blessing, yet they don't obey His laws.
