Greg Sulc said that in its first year, he figured that North Strabane Township's multi-million Municipal Park would "fly under the radar" its first year.
But the township's parks and recreation director said he was wrong.
Through partnerships with organizations such as the Canon-McMillan School Districts, youth sports foundations and more, the park was well utilized—with tournaments, a health fair, a community day celebration and even a youth sports injury clinic.
"That was one of 16 in the entire country," Sulc said.
And there's plently more in store for the state-of-the art facilities in its sophomore year—and the season is starting soon.
Coming to the park this year is the popular Washington Wine and Jazz Pops! Festival, and Sulc said he expects another robust year of pavilion rentals.
While last year, about 70 percent of the rental dates were booked, he expects that number to increase this year.
"I'm looking for maybe 90 percent this year," Sulc said.
The park will also be host to four baseball tournaments this year, as well as a youth football association tournament.
And Sulc added that even more is in the works.
"It's going to be a good year," he said with a smile.
