Patch Pet of the Month: Wanna Be My Buddy?

This chocolate lab needs a forever home. Will it be yours?

I’m making the best of things here at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue. I’m just a young dog and I want to play, run, and perform—not be staying in a kennel day in and day out. Everyone calls me “Buddy,” which makes me buddies with everyone I meet. I’m a smiling pup and if you show me even an ounce of interest, I’m gonna wag my tail and grin as wide as I can to get you to stay a little bit longer. Lots of people stop by to say hello to me, but they never stay very long. I am a medium-size chocolate lab, but I have not quite figured out this “fetch” thing they keep showing me. Sure, I’ll chase whatever they throw, but then I come running back empty-mouthed, and ready for another launch. The tennis balls don’t seem all that special to me. I prefer …

Patch Pet of the Month: Meet the Mighty Marco

This guy is a real spark plug!

The face is all bulldog. The rest of him is anyone’s guess. This cute and spunky 2-year-old with the speckled tree-trunk legs—found as a stray near Woody’s Dog Wash— is a real spark plug. He might have been someone's dog once, but that's history and it's time for him to move on to a new home and a new life. The kennel is so frustrating to this eye-catching stud at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue. He uses those big, brown, shiny globes that are his eyes and his furrowed brow set in that blocky face to win over sympathetic volunteers so he can get out and play. He squeezes his plump frame against the front of his kennel to implore probing fingers to pet and scratch him. It's all very irresistible.   And when you fall for his well-rehearsed act, he…

This is a perfectly on the mark description of Marco! I was smiling and nodding my head the entire time I read it. He is so-very-much loved by all of us volunteers!   more ›

Patch Pet of the Month: Mad About Maddie

Do you have room in your heart and home for Maddie?

The life of a Labrador Retriever is what Maddie should be living. That magical life would be filled with long walks, playful jousts in the back yard and endless games of fetch. It is a life she was made for, but she spends most of her time in a kennel instead. She often appears as though she  considers  Angel Ridge her home now and it's maddening that she has yet to be adopted. There are times where you might catch her snoozing on her dog bed or with her tongue crammed inside a kong for the last vestiges of peanut butter, but there is a lot of time spent pacing, jumping up to the sky and barking because she is bored out of her beautiful black skull. And it makes the volunteers who are mad about Maddie, well, mad. The frustration has been …

Patch Pet of the Month: Sorry Charlie ... Better Days Are Coming

This lab mix lost the love of his life—Tootsie, his canine wife of sorts—last month.

Charlie and Tootsie arrived together in 2004 and have stayed together, like an old married couple, ever since. They shared kibble, their dog beds and water. But the toys were all Charlie's. Tootsie never cared that he would sit for hours with any one of his myriad toys hanging from his jowls. If he gets tired of holding it, he just puts it down and rests his chin on it. When it is time for a walk, Charlie chooses a toy to carry during the brief exercise.  As the honorary matriarch and patriarch of the dogs at Angel Ridge, the two larger-than-life co-habitants have been a virtual fixture. Even the volunteers who have been walking dogs the longest at AR cannot remember a time when Charlie and Tootsie were not there. Hoping that the two would…

Patch Pet of the Month: Pretty Middie

This girl needs a forever home. Could it be yours?

That big pink tongue and those big brown eyes—she’s not just a pretty face, but she is very pretty. Her gaze meets yours unflinchingly, because Middie so wants to please and she is cued by anyone providing some direction. The poor girl had a serious bout with pancreatitis a couple of months ago that caused her to lose a lot of weight, but she is looking very much like her former, cheery, playful self now that she has recovered. Middie was adopted briefly, but unfortunately was simply “a little too much dog” in a home with a 4-year-old. She did not growl or nip, but the young, exuberant Middie can be a clumsy clown at times and her short-lived adoptive family sung her praises as a good dog who did nothing wrong but regretfully returned her…

Patch Pets of the Month: Bros, Best Buddies—Babe and Jeeters

Do you have room in your heart and home for these two?

Just pick us up and we’re ready to go! We are brothers and since we have been together all this time, we want to be together for the rest of our lives. We are about four years old now, and very small dogs—only 11 pounds each—so we expect to be around a loooong time. Our names are Babe and Jeeters, which is easy to remember if you are a baseball fan. Just think—Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter!   We came from a home with too many dogs and we both had terrible-looking coats and bald spots, which are slowly improving. We are healthy, happy, friendly Pomeranian-chihuahua mixes that can mix it up with the best of them. We were housebroken when we got to Angel Ridge and would only need a brush-up to be neat and tidy again.   Walking us together is …

Patch Pet of the Month: Hop On This Harley

Do you have room in your heart and home for Harley?

You should have seen the condition I was in when I got here to Angel Ridge Animal Rescue! I had a big bald patch on my back and rear and a rat-tail instead of the lustrous, silky coat and bushy tail that has been slowly coming back. My ears were so infected, they were oozing and so itchy, it drove me crazy. My owners could not care for me and had to give me up. It was all very sad, but now I’m ready for somebody new. I don’t care if you are young or old or have kids. It’s all good with me. My name is Harley and I look like a collie-golden retriever mix. Since collies are shepherding dogs, it is fine to call me a shepherd mix, too. In August, I spent hours and hours at the Washington County Fair in a booth for Angel Ridge meeting and …

At nearby Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, for example, is holding a Beagle Bonanza this month. With many beagles looking for new homes, Angel Ridge is adding a bit more of an incentive for those considering adopting a dog. The beagles are "on special"—$50 off the regular adoption …
