Merante Brothers to Bring Neighborhood Market Back to Life

Peters Township husband and wife Anthony and Domenica Merante are opening the modern Italian market in North Strabane this spring.

A new market is opening, and it isn’t a name you won’t recognize. Pasquale Merante opened the first Merante Italian family market in Oakland in 1905, which continues to operate today.  Now, Peters Township residents Anthony (grandson of Pasquale) and Domenica Merante are bringing the beloved grocery—and more—to the area this spring. The husband and wife team said the mission ofMerante Brothers Market is to bring the neighborhood store back to the neighborhood, but with a modern flair.  “We’re offering drive-thru amenities, a takeout window, more items to choose from and more room to enjoy—and parking,” Domenica Merante told Patch. Trax Farms to Feature Vendors for Tasting Event

The market invites locals for sampling during three upcoming Saturdays.

Trax Farms will "open up its pantry" for a day of sampling during three upcoming Saturdays starting tomorrow and continuing on Feb. 11 and March 10.  Numerous vendors like Wind & Willow, Miller’s Mustard, Boar's Head, Evelyn’s Edibles, Albert’s Meats, Schneider’s Dairy and more will be showcasing their wonderful eats. Free tasting of award-winning local winery Arrowhead Wines will be available as well. For those with a sweet tooth, fudge and other baked goods will be featured. Free parking and free admission make this the perfect excuse to get the entire family out of the house and try something new, according to a Trax spokesperson. So come hungry! The Taste of Trax is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trax Farms is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m…
