Free Shredding Event Presented to Help Prevent Identity Theft

State Rep. Brandon Neuman invites you to attend May 11.

Have a bunch of paperwork to get rid of but afraid to toss it out in the garbage? A state legislator can help you with that. State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane, is sponsoring a free shredding event for the community to destroy unneeded confidential documents. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at the office parking lot at 1825 Washington Road, Washington, PA 15301. "Identity theft is a serious, expensive crime as millions of Americans have their personal information stolen every year," Neuman said. "This is a great opportunity for residents to dispose old paperwork safely so thieves cannot get their hands on the information." Residents may bring all unneeded documents that contain personal information, …

Neuman: Legislature Scores Take Down on Olympic Wrestling Ruling

'If the decision to drop wrestling were made this month, I would have thought it an April Fools’ Day joke,' state Rep. Brandon Neuman said.

State Rep. Brandon Neuman on Monday applauded the state House and Senate for their unanimous approval of concurrent resolutions urging the International Olympic Committee to restore wrestling as an Olympic sport for the 2020 Summer Games. “The Olympic committee’s decision to drop wrestling is incomprehensible in Pennsylvania,” Neuman, D-North Strabane, said. “Wrestling is ingrained in our culture, and Pennsylvania is the hotbed of wrestling, renowned for its wrestlers and high school and college programs. The legislator continued: “We speak with one voice—wrestling must be restored for the 2020 Olympics,” Neuman said. “The committee must be shown the error of its ways and restore this time-honored sport to its rightful spot as a premier …

Lawmakers, Victim’s Father Warn of Distracted Driving Dangers

'It is my hope that educating everyone about the importance of safe driving habits will begin to change driving habits that caused 387,000 injuries and 3,331 deaths in 2011,' state Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane, said.

As Pennsylvania recognizes April as "Distracted Driving Awareness Month," two lawmakers on Tuesday emphasized the need to continue to educate the public about the dangers of distracted driving.  State Rep. Brandon Neuman and state Sen. Rob Teplitz discussed the repercussions of this dangerous habit at a Capitol news conference that was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and featured the father of a victim of distracted driving. "Distracted driving takes a terrible toll on our families, communities and safety," said Neuman, D-North Strabane. "It is my hope that educating everyone about the importance of safe driving habits will begin to change driving habits that caused 387,000 injuries and 3,331 deaths in 2011."  Most …

Neuman: House Fails to Strike Blow Against ‘Pay to Play’ Culture

'Pennsylvanians are sick of political kickbacks and favoritism,” Neuman said. 'The need for a dynamic campaign contribution ban grows greater with each passing day. I only wish that day was today.'

Pennsylvania will pay the price for the failure of the House today to approve critical reform amendments designed to end “pay to play” practices when state contracts are awarded, state Rep. Brandon Neuman said Monday. “My amendments and others were crucial if we are serious about real reform, transparency and accountability when state contracts are awarded,” Neuman said. “They were the real medicine needed to combat the political kickbacks and favoritism influencing taxpayer-paid contracts emanating from Harrisburg. Sadly, they fell short." Neuman said the vehicle for his good-government amendments was H.B. 201. “My first amendment would have required all applicants for state contracts to disclose campaign contributions made within two …

Distracted Driving Awareness Event Scheduled

The event will 'leave no heart untouched.'

State Rep. Brandon Neuman said he hopes that educating people about the importance of safe driving habits that caused 387,000 injuries and 3,331 deaths in 2011 will help curb distracted driving. To help raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, Neuman, D-North Strabane, and state Sen. Rob Teplitz, of York County, will co-sponsor a news conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Capitol Media Center in Harrisburg. "Distracted driving takes a terrible toll on our families, communities and safety," said Neuman, whose resolution designating April as "Distracted Driving Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania won unanimous approval in the House.  "It’s crucial to public safety that we continue to remind motorists to keep both eyes on the road …

Property Reassessment Reform Coming to Pennsylvania

See what is on the horizon.

A bipartisan trio of legislators Thursday lauded Senate Bill 66’s passage through the state Legislature, which will make sweeping reforms to the way property reassessments are conducted in Pennsylvania. State Reps. Jesse White, Brandon Neuman and Rick Saccone said the bill passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday 196-0 and is headed to the governor’s desk, where it is expected to be signed into law. The bill unanimously passed the state Senate 49-0 on Jan. 29. Largely based on bills authored by White, Neuman and Saccone – and on the House Task Force on Property Valuation and Reassessment created under their legislation—the bill would standardize reassessment processes that wildly vary among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, and that …

Washington County Petitioning International Olympic Committee to Include Wrestling in 2020 Games

More than 100 people have signed the online petition.

Washington County is petitioning the International Olympics Committee to include wrestling in the 2020 games. "Wrestling has been a part of the Olympic Games since the modern games began, and the Greco-Roman version goes back to the ancient games," the online petition, posted on Change.org, stated. "Wrestling is one of the sports that the Olympics were built on. It is one of the sports that define what the Olympics are about." More than 100 people have signed the petition so far—and the signatures weren't just from local folks. A man from Michigan signed, as did one from the United Kingdom. News that the IOC had dropped wrestling from the 2020 lineup also prompted one local lawmaker to introduce a special resolution last month. State Rep. …

Neuman Seeks Co-Sponsorship for Resolution to Immediately Impeach Convicted Supreme Court Judge

'In order to maintain the public’s faith in its judicial system, it is vital that we move resolutely and expeditiously in removing the ineligible Justice from our highest court,' the legislator wrote in an email to all House members.

State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane, on Tuesday emailed fellow legislators asking for co-sponors for a resolution that calls for the immediate impeachment of convicted state Supreme Court Judge Joan Orie Melvin. The email read: "On Feb. 21, 2013 Joan Orie Melvin was convicted of among other things, three counts of diversion of services and one count of conspiracy—diversion of services, all felonies of the third degree, all infamous crimes and all based on actions taken while holding public office. The Pennsylvania State Constitution forbids individuals convicted of infamous crimes from serving as a Justice on the state Supreme Court. In order to maintain the public’s faith in its judicial system, it is vital that we move resolutely…

Neuman: Convicted State Supreme Court Justice Must Resign

'The jury has spoken and it’s in the public’s best interest to move forward with replacing Justice Orie Melvin on the bench,' the state representative said.

State Rep. Brandon Neuman today called on convicted Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin to resign following her conviction in a public corruption trial in Pittsburgh. “Justice Orie Melvin should immediately step down from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court,” Neuman, D-North Strabane, said. “The jury has spoken and it’s in the public’s best interest to move forward with replacing Justice Orie Melvin on the bench.” An Allegheny County jury convicted Orie Melvin on six counts for using her judicial staff and the Senate staff of her sister, former state Sen. Jane Orie, to do work on her unsuccessful campaign for Supreme Court in 2003 and her successful run for the court in 2009. Orie Melvin was suspended from the court when she was…

Typical Brandon Neuman- cheap headlines about something he has nothing to do with. Do you really think one of the most junior members of the minority party is going to be a player in the impeachment process? Funny how Neuman put his big statement out AFTER two senior Republican reps- Speaker Sam Smith and Glen Grell had already done the same. That reminds me- you made a bunch of noise about going…   more ›
