Many political observers suggest that Kathleen Kane's election as Pennsylvania's first female Attorney General was due in no small part to her promise to investigate whether politics played a role in the evolution of the case against convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky and other Penn State officials. “As soon as she began early in her campaign talking about the promise to investigate it objectively, it spread pretty quickly on a grass-roots level. There’s no doubt that she had a lot of Penn State support,” Maribeth Schmidt of the grass-roots alumni group Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship told the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
