North Strabane Man Pleads Guilty in Attempted Homicide of His Wife

Harry Orion Hibbs Jr. will spend between 6 and 1/2 to 15 years in prison under the plea agreement reached Monday afternoon.

A North Strabane man will spend as many as 15 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday afternoon to the attempted homicide of his wife. Harry Orion Hibbs Jr. also pleaded guilty to five counts of a person not to possess a firearm, as well as endangering the welfare of children during his appearance before Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle. In exchange for his guilty plea, he was sentenced to 6 and 1/2 years to 15 years in prison, DiSalle's office confirmed. North Strabane police last Christmas Eve charged Hibbs with attempted homicide and several counts of assault following the incident, which took place in his state Route 136 home. Criminal Complaint: Man Threatened to Kill Wife; Himself

A criminal complaint filed on Christmas Eve explains what happened in the Hibbs household.

A criminal complaint filed against a North Strabane man states he tried to kill his wife before threatening to turn a rifle on himself Christmas Eve. North Strabane police on Saturday charged Harry Orion Hibbs Jr. with attempted homicide and several counts of assault following the incident, which took place in his state Route 136 home. "(Hibbs was involved in a domestic argument with his wife. During this event, Mr. Hibbs grabbed Mrs. Hibbs by the arms while she was holding their 2-year-old daughter and pushed her down," the complaint stated. "During this act, Mrs. Hibbs (suffered) redness and bruising to both upper arms and chest area." That's when court records said Harry Hibbs grabbed a loaded .44 caliber black powder revolver "and …

Man Jailed on Attempted Homicide Charge

North Strabane police charged Harry Orion Hibbs Jr. with criminal attempt at homicide following an incident on Christmas Eve.

A Washington man is in the county jail for criminal attempt at homicide and other charges following a Christmas Eve incident. North Strabane police charged Harry Orion Hibbs Jr., 51, who has a Washington address, with criminal attempt at homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of simple assault. Online court records show Hibbs was arraigned Saturday before district Judge Ethan Ward and remanded to the Washington County Jail Sunday after failing to post a $500,000 bond.
